'The Martian' Takes $3.74 Million In First Place on Wednesday; 'Hotel Transylvania 2' Adds $1.24 MillionOctober 08, 2015 07:50 AM

Fox reports The Martian added $3.74 million as it easily retained first place on Wednesday. That gives it a six-day domestic total of $67.9 million, putting it 8 percent behind where Gravity stood at the same point and 4 percent ahead of Interstellar.

In second place, Hotel Transylvania 2 eased 37 percent from last Wednesday to $1.24 million yesterday. With $95.2 million in the bank through 13 days of play, the sequel is pacing 14 percent ahead of its predecessor.

The Intern claimed third place yesterday with $0.99 million, down just 42 percent from last week. With $39.9 million earned through 13 days, the Nancy Meyers film continues to enjoy strong holding power thanks to positive word of mouth.

Sicario took fourth place on Wednesday with $0.92 million, up 373 percent from last week when the film was still in limited release. The strongly reviewed thriller has earned $18.4 million domestically thus far.

Filling out the top five, Black Mass was off 59 percent from last Wednesday to $0.46 million yesterday. The film's domestic total now stands at $54 million.

Meanwhile, The Walk added $165,371 million in IMAX release yesterday, down 31 percent from its first day last week. The well-reviewed Robert Zemeckis film has earned $2.54 million through eight days and expands nationwide on Friday.
