'Mockingjay – Part 2' Holds Up Well on Monday with $8.54M; 'The Peanuts Movie' Passes $100M After $1.60M Daily Take; 'Spectre' Third with $1.57M; 'The Night Before' Fourth with $1.13MNovember 24, 2015 01:24 PM

Lionsgate's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 took in $8.54 million on Monday to lead the daily box office for a fourth straight day. The final chapter of the young adult blockbuster franchise starring Jennifer Lawrence was down 63 percent from Sunday. In comparison, last year's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 was down 65 percent on its first Monday to gross $8.98 million. Mockingjay - Part 2 has grossed $111.21 million in four days of release. While the film is running 15 percent behind the $130.88 million start of Mockingjay - Part 1, Mockingjay - Part 2 is also displaying stronger daily holding power thus far than Mockingjay - Part 1 did.

The Peanuts Movie claimed second place on Monday with $1.60 million. In the process, the 3D computer animated adaptation from Fox and Blue Sky surpassed the $100 million domestic mark on Monday. Thanks in part to the approaching Thanksgiving holiday; The Peanuts Movie was down just 62 percent from Sunday and up 81 percent over last Monday. With an 18-day take of $100.95 million, The Peanuts Movie is currently running 18 percent behind the $123.69 million 18-day take of 2012's Wreck-It Ralph.

Spectre followed closely behind in third with $1.57 million. The latest installment of Sony and MGM's James Bond franchise declined 63 percent from Sunday and 35 percent from last Monday. Spectre has grossed a solid $155.72 million in 18 days. That places the film 9 percent ahead of the $142.31 million 18-day take of 2008's Quantum of Solace and 30 percent behind the $223.07 million 18-day gross of 2012's Skyfall.

Sony's The Night Before held up nicely on Monday with a fourth place take of $1.13 million. The R-rated comedy starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen and Anthony Mackie was down only 55 percent from Sunday. The Night Before has grossed a softer than expected $11.01 million in four days, but is likely to hold up well throughout the holiday season. The film is currently running 21 percent behind the $13.99 million four-day take of 2011's A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.

STX Entertainment's Secret in Their Eyes rounded out the day's top five with $0.601 million. The thriller starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts was down 64 percent from Monday. Secret in Their Eyes has grossed a lackluster $7.25 million in four days. That places the film 45 percent behind the $13.21 million four-day start of fellow STX Entertainment release The Gift earlier this year.
