- Prisoners' 17% bump in traffic from Friday to Sunday was very strong for a new movie on opening weekend. Yes its true that films which play to older demographics usually have their buzz stand up well through opening weekend but even with that being said this was impressive and a sign that it should play well in upcoming weekends.
- Rush continued to impress and has consistently been the most talked about film of this weekend's openers. The Ron Howard vehicle has been driven expertly through the social media channels and appears set to be a winner for the award winning director et al.
- Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 has been picking up steam of late and with close to 7,000 tweets on the weekend before its release it looks prime for a big opening. By comparison, Hotel Transylvania had just 4,272 the same distance out. Its true that sequels have bigger buzz in general than stand alone offerings but even with a discount in mind its clear that the film is destined for big things this weekend.
- Battle Of The Year might have come in second on the weekend in terms of total mentions but in looking closer, its 37% drop in buzz from Friday to Sunday was pretty atrocious. This poor word of mouth is pretty consistent with its showing at the box office where it could only manage $5 million. By comparison, Pitch Perfect had 57,030 tweets over its opening weekend and a 13% bump from Friday to Sunday. Yup, this was dead on arrival.
