Warner Bros.’ fantasy Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them commanded the box office this weekend with a $74.40 million debut, more than quadruple the next-closest film although lower than the debuts for any of the original Potter movies. Fox and DreamWorks’ animated Trolls took the bronze medal with $17.44 million.

The other new wide releases weren’t so hot. STX Entertainment’s teen comedy The Edge of Seventeen opened with $4.75 million, Open Road’s boxing drama Bleed For This debuted with $2.36 million, and Sony / TriStar’s military drama Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk expanded into wide release with $901 thousand.
