Weekend Projections: ‘Don’t Breathe’ Leads Again ($14.6M 3-Day/$18M 4-Day); ‘Suicide Squad’ Adds $10.1M/$13.3M; ‘Light Between Oceans’ Soft ($4.4M/$5.4M); ‘Morgan’ Misfires ($1.9M/$2.3M)

Saturday Update: Labor Day weekend is upon us, and Sony’s Don’t Breathe will easily once again claim the top spot over the box office in its second frame. The strongly received horror/thriller added $4.175 million on Friday as it looks to be heading for a strong $14.6 million three-day/$18.0 million four-day holiday weekend. Through eight days of release, its domestic take stands at $39.6 million.

Unfortunately, this weekend’s new releases aren’t faring very well. Disney’s The Light Between Oceans grabbed $1.36 million yesterday as it paces toward a $4.4 million/$5.4 million split this weekend. Meanwhile, Morgan debuted to a paltry $615,000 from 2,020 locations yesterday as it came in below our already low expectations. It looks to be heading for a $1.86 million/$2.26 million weekend according to Fox.

Hell or High Water continued to impress in its nationwide rollout, taking in $1.155 million yesterday from 1,303 locations. With $11.3 million in the bank so far, the critical darling is playing just as well with audiences as its momentum continues to build heading into the fall season. Look for a weekend split around $4.8 million/$6.0 million.

Key three-day and four-day weekend estimates are listed below. Check back on Sunday for official three-day estimates from the studios, followed by official four-day estimates on Monday and all weekend actuals to be reported on Tuesday afternoon.
