Disney’s Zootopia grossed $5.37 million on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a fifth consecutive day. The critically acclaimed 3D computer animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios was up a solid 18 percent over Monday’s performance. Zootopia has grossed a very strong $84.98 million in five days of release. That places the film 12 percent ahead of the $75.68 million five-day start of 2014’s The LEGO Movie and 18 percent ahead of the $71.88 million five-day take of 2014’s Big Hero 6. Zootopia is expected to remain comfortably in first place over the upcoming weekend.
London Has Fallen held steady in second place with $2.13 million. The action thriller sequel from Focus and Gramercy was up a healthy 29 percent over Monday. London Has Fallen has grossed $25.42 million in five days. That is in line with pre-release expectations, but is also 30 percent below the $36.20 million five-day start of 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen (which increased 11 percent on its first Tuesday to gross $3.07 million).
Fox’s Deadpool took in $1.67 million to remain in third place. The Ryan Reynolds led blockbuster antihero film was up 17 percent over Sunday and down a solid 41 percent from last Tuesday. Deadpool has totaled a massive $314.58 million in 26 days. The film is running an extremely impressive 51 percent ahead of the $208.53 million 26-day take of 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Paramount’s Whiskey Tango Foxtrot continued to claim fourth with $0.808 million. The R-rated comedy starring Tina Fey was up a strong 43.5 percent. However, in the bigger picture Whiskey Tango Foxtrot continues to run below expectations with a five-day start of $8.81 million. The film is running 35 percent behind the $13.63 million five-day start of 2014’s This is Where I Leave You (which was up 40 percent on its first Tuesday to gross $0.864 million).
Gods of Egypt rounded out the day’s top five with $0.565 million. Lionsgate’s expensive action fantasy film was up 31 percent over Monday and down a sharp 56 percent from last Tuesday. Gods of Egypt has grossed just $24.04 million in twelve days, which is especially disappointing with both the film’s price tag and the action fantasy genre in mind.
