‘Secret Life of Pets’ Passes $400M Global Total, Sequel Announced For 2018

Universal announced the follow-up The Secret Life of Pets 2 will be released on July 13, 2018, as the current film surpassed $400 million in global box office on Tuesday. With $300.2 million domestically to date and $103.5 million nationally, The Secret Life of Pets is potentially on track to become one of the highest-grossing original films of all time. The animated tale starring the voices of Louis C.K., Kevin Hart, and Eric Stonestreet debuted atop the box office with $104.3 million on July 8, the highest opening weekends ever for an original film. (Excluding sequels, prequels, remakes, and adaptations.) It held on to the top spot in its second weekend as well with $50.8 million and has yet to depart the top four at the weekend box office. Illumination Entertainment founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and collaborator Janet Healy will produce the sequel.
