Weekend Actuals: ‘Kong: Skull Island’ Giant w/ $61.0M, ‘Logan’ Drops Fast, ‘Get Out’ Drops Slowly, ‘Hidden Figures’ & ‘La La Land’ Reach Milestones

Warner Bros.’ monster blockbuster Kong: Skull Island opened atop the weekend box office with $61.0 million. Fox’s superhero action drama Logan dropped 56.8 percent after leading last weekend, capturing second place with $38.1 million. Universal’s horror Get Out looks likely to experience the strongest hold of any horror film this decade, declining only 26.5 percent to $20.7 million and third place.

Lionsgate’s La La Land spends its 13th weekend in the top 10, making it only the fourth film in the past decade to reach that mark, as it takes ninth place with $1.7 million. Fox’s Hidden Figures spends its 10th weekend in the top 10 with a seventh place rank at $2.7 million. With at least another frame or two in that top tier likely, it could soon challenge La La Land’s longevity mark as well.
