Weekend Actuals: ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Beams Up To $59.2M; ‘Lights Out’ Opens w/ $21.6M; ‘Ice Age: Collision Course’ Goes Cold w/ $21.3M

Paramount’s Star Trek Beyond had the lowest opening weekend of any film in the rebooted franchise, but still took first place this weekend with a very solid $59.25 million. That was enough to knock Universal’s The Secret Life of Pets off after two weeks on top, as it fell 41.7 percent to $29.60 million and second place. Warner Bros.’ horror flick Lights Out debuted in third with $21.68 million. And Fox’s animated sequel Ice Age: Collision Course opened to a disastrous fourth place with $21.37 million, less than half the previous lowest opening weekend among the Ice Age series’ four previous installments.
